APPROVAL
OF MINUTES
Minutes of the May minutes were unanimously approved as amended.
PRESIDENT'S
REPORT
- Upcoming
dinner meetings: Steinberg Dinner, Tuesday, September 27. We have
received $6,000 in pharmaceutical support.
- Events tentatively
scheduled:
- Wednesday, October 27 - Wyeth is the sponsor - speaker to be
determined.
- Thursday, November 17 - Bristol Myers (Abilify) is the sponsor
- Dr. John Zajecka will speak on schizophrenia. This will be held
at Biaggi's Italian Restaurant in Eastview Mall
- Dr. Dvorin
will continue to educate on the relationship between prescribers
and pharmaceutical companies.
- Thursday,
December __ - Lilly will sponsor a speaker (an endocrinologist/psychiatrist)
on metabolic issues.
- The time
and day for Council meetings was discussed. The best days were
Tuesday or Wednesday and the best time was 7:00 or 7:30 PM. For
the time being, the meetings will remain on the second Wednesday
of the month beginning at 7:30 PM.
- After discussion,
it was decided that the DB will pay for drinks at the Steinberg
dinner and Dr. Young would invite the non-APA member child psychiatrists
via WNYCCAP president, Dr. Lisa Rosica.
Finance
- To date,
there is a balance of $63,500.00.
- The market
has been surprisingly positive since Hurricane Katrina.
- As discussed
at the May meeting, two signatures are needed for checks. It was
agreed that there should be more than two qualified signatories
to ensure access to funds, especially since the offices of President
and Treasurer are currently held by the same person. It was decided
that the President, President-Elect, Immediate Past-President,
Treasurer, and Secretary should be able to so-sign. The Bylaws
will also need to be amended to establish this.
Membership/Fellowship
- We have had
some transfer-ins over the summer.
- We should
hear some news about the fellows who were nominated by the end
of the year. Three applications were sent in.
- Dr. Satloff
was commissioned by the Rules Committee to bring the local district
branch's bylaws in compliance with the national APA bylaws. They
will be brought to a future meeting for discussion.
Practice
Economics
- RIPA has
interviewed two candidates for the vacancy on the Mental Health
Advisory Committee.
Newsletter
- The newsletter
has been mailed out. The next issue will be published in early
December.
Member-in-Training
- The status
of the Annual Meeting competition needs to be revisited.
- Dr. Cui reported
that we achieved 100% membership of the residents last May. He
will work on recruiting all new residents to become members. Two
of the new residents have already joined.
- Dr. Satloff
reminded everyone that we receive one vote in the Assembly for
every member we have in the district branch. Dr. Young will recruit
one of the Geriatric fellows to chair the Aging Committee.
Ethics
- There was
a complaint against the past president by a former chair of one
of the committees. Dr. Dvorin researched the complaint and came
to the conclusion that there was no ethical violation. It was
appealed but the outcome was that Dr. Dvorin's decision was upheld.
- When the
bylaws are rewritten, there should be a provision on attendance
and how chairs are appointed and committees created. The President
should appoint the Chairs of Committees. These questions will
be discussed and answered when the bylaws are discussed at an
upcoming meeting.
Impaired
Physicians
- The Director
of the Office of New York State Impaired Physicians Office is
not a physician. The Medical Director's position is not filled.
Religion
and Psychiatry
- Dr. Jaime
Grodzicki is interested in returning to Rochester to speak. Dr.
Fass would like to promote this endeavor. A possible date for
him would either by February/March or early June. Dr. Grodzicki
is interested in addictions. Pharmaceutical support is quite possible.
- Drs. Prim
and Torres may speak at the Unity Spring Conference. Dr. Fass
is interested in having a dinner with Dr. Prim in April of next
year and Rev. Lawrence Hargrave is interested in helping out.
Old/New Business
- Video with
Lyman Wynne - Dr. Rodic has decided not to pursue this due to
Dr. Wynne's health.
- Dr. Young
will contact Dr. Solky regarding putting her videotape and memorabilia
onto a DVD.
- There was
a discussion regarding the shortage of psychiatrists in the area.
Although more residents are staying and several others have moved
into the area, most committee members felt there is still a shortage
of psychiatrists. It was noted that more nurses seem to be going
into psychiatry.
- A question
was raised about travel reimbursements to NYSPA. Is NYSPA reimbursing
50%? Ms. Diesel will find out. A policy change may be needed if
they are not reimbursing the 50%.
- Dr. Dvorin
mentioned that Dr. Marrocco is currently at Rochester General
Hospital due to complications following gall bladder surgery.
A floral arrangement will be sent to her by the district branch.
With no other
business, the meeting adjourned at 8:38 PM
Respectfully
submitted,
Susan J. Diesel
Executive Director, GVPA
The next regular
